James “Butch” Darryl Williams was born on August 25, 1962, in Richmond, Virginia, to the late Ulysses Grant Greene Jr. & the late Amy Gertrude Williams. He departed this life on January 23, 2023, in Newport News, Virginia.

James spent most of his childhood in Henderson, NC. He was educated in the Vance County School System and graduated from Vance Senior High School in 1982. At Vance Senior High, he played on the basketball team and went on to play at Johnson C. Smith University. Throughout his life, he was skilled in illustration and drawing, which proved to be helpful as he also became a skilled carpenter.

“Butch,” was known for his height – standing at 6 foot 7 inches and his trusting nature. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, building, and tinkering.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Connie Williams, mother, Amy Gertrude Williams, father, Ulysses Grant Greene, and brother, Kim Wright.

Butch leaves behind a family his daughter Jessica Evans; brothers Kelvin Wright, Albert Wright, Jimmie Elroy Lee, Stevie Byrd; sisters Leann Dillard, Kim Brown; and grandchildren Aaron Evans and Natalie Evans. He also leaves behind several stepsons, extended family, and dear friends who he held dearly in his heart.

Memorial Services for James Darryl Williams will be on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at 12:00PM at New Higher Faith Ministries, 605 Raleigh Road, Henderson, NC 27536.
